Piperidinyl alkyl pyrrolid-2-one derivatives (I) are new. Piperidinyl alkyl pyrrolid-2-one derivatives of formula (I) are new. Am = a group of formula (i); m = 2 or 3; n = 0; R2 = phenyl optionally substituted by at least one halo, OH, 1-4C alkoxy, 1-4C alkyl, or CF3; X = H or OH; x = 0 or 1; Ar = phenyl optionally substituted by at least one halo, naphthyl or indolyl; Z = phenyl substituted by at least one halo, 1-4C alkyl or CF3. N.B: A<-> is defined as an anion, but does not appear in the formula. An Independent claim is included for the preparation of (I).
