APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SEGMENT ALLOCATION FOR DOWNLINK PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT IN BROADBAND WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A segment allocating apparatus and method for improving performance of downlink in a broadband wireless communication system are provided to allocate segments to each sector such that degradation of performance of downlink due to repetition of segments is minimized. Pairs of all the sectors are generated such that the sectors are not in the same cell, and the generated pairs of sectors are aligned according to priority levels based on a certain reference(401,403). A pair of sectors having the highest priority level among the pairs of sectors which have not been selected is selected(405). When there is a sector to which a segment has not been allocated in the selected pair of sectors, a segment is allocated to the sectors of a cell in which the sectors are included(419). When there are two sectors to which a segment has not been allocated in the selected pairs of sectors, a segment is allocated to sectors of a cell in which one sector is included, and then a segment is allocated to the sectors of a cell in which the other remaining sector is included(409).
