The present invention relates to a gas flow reversing element (1) and to a method for the use of a gas supply (14) under excess pressure, in particular oxygen, for the selective production of a gas flow from or to a line connection (6), in particular for the connection of a catheter (10) that can be inserted into the airway of a patient, or a cannula, for gas exchange in sealed or only partially ventilated rooms. The gas flow reversing element (1) is embodied as a main piece (2) with a branching piece (3), wherein the main piece (2) connects a pressure connection (4) to the connection to the gas supply (14) with at least one closable outlet opening (5) and the branching piece (3) runs from the main piece (2) to a line connection (6). A nozzle (7), particularly an injector nozzle, is disposed and configured in the main piece (2) such that, by a gas flow flowing from the pressure connection (4) through the nozzle (7) to the outlet opening (5), a gas flow can also be produced in the branching piece (3) in the direction of the outlet opening (5), wherein the main piece (2) has a flow cross-section that is substantially constant from the branching piece (3) to the outlet opening (5) or increases in the direction of the outlet opening (5). Two safety openings (8, 9) are preferably present in the branching piece (3). The outlet opening (5) and the safety openings (8, 9) are preferably disposed such that they may selectively be closed individually or collectively, entirely or partially, for example, manually with the heel of the hand and/or fingers of only one of the user's hands. During operation, the direction and intensity of flow in the branching piece may be influenced by the manual complete or partial closure of the outlet opening (5) and/or the safety openings (8, 9). |
