<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively extract light emitted from illuminants into the air. <P>SOLUTION: The self-luminous device 1 includes a first layer, a light emitting layer overlaying the first layer, a second layer overlaying the light emitting layer and an intermediate layer in the second layer. The refractive index of the intermediate layer is made higher than the refractive index of the first layer and the second layer, the surface of the second layer or the surface of a layer overlaying the second layer has a two-dimensional periodic structure, the intermediate layer is provided inside the two-dimensional periodic structure, and a distance between the upper part of the light emitting layer and the bottom part of the two-dimensional periodic structure is 0.1λ-0.3λ or 0.3λ-λ (λ is wavelength in vacuum). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
