PURPOSE:To obtain a composite roll constituted of outer and inner layers, well joined to each other, by arranging plural outer-layer stocks around a cylindrical inner-layer stock and filling the gaps between the inner and outer layer stocks and between the outer-layer stocks by welding. CONSTITUTION:Plural annular outer-layer stocks 2, 3, 4 are concentrically arranged around a cylindrical inner-layer stock 1 by providing prescribed gaps between them. The material of stocks 2, 4 is different from that of stock 3, and the gaps B, C between them are provided respectively. The gap A between the stock 1 and the stocks 2, 3, 4, the gap B between the stocks 2 and 3 and the gap C between the stocks 3 and 4, are welded respectively in optional order, to fill respective gaps A, B, C with deposited metals. In this method, a welded composite roll conforming to the desired use is obtained by combining the outer-layer stocks of proper materials in the axial direction. |
