[Also in Division F2] In ripping a rock layer,. the point P of a ripper arm 30 is strongly biassed against a shoulder of the rock and the bar 30 is elastically vibrated at its sonic resonant frequency by a vibration generator 64 situated at an upper anti-node such that the point P has a component of sonic vibration generally parallel with the top surface S of the rock. The conventional. ripper point P is mounted at the lower end of a ripper bar 30 pivoted about a node N' in a rubber bush mounting carried on a casting having limited lateral pivotting relative to a liftable draw-bar assembly on the rear of a crawler tractor. Draw-bar pull may be applied to the bar 30 through the node pivot N' or through springs 44 tuned to vibrate at the sonic frequency only at the end adjacent the bar. The vibrator generator 64 is driven from a hydraulic motor carried on a mounting pivotal about the node N' and centralised by tuned springs bearing on the upper end of the bar 30. |
