In a breathing apparatus for controlling or assisting respiration, a source of nutrient gas under pressure is connected to a pure fluid amplifier and a mouthpiece and the apparatus is characterized in that the amplifier 12 includes a body having a power nozzle 40 connected to an inner action region by a V-shaped passage 48, 42, the first leg 48 being connected to the mouthpiece 14, a first control port 51 being disposed relative to the inner action region to direct nutrient gas at an angle thereto from the one leg 48 for switching the gas issuing from the power nozzle 40 from the said leg 48 to the other leg 42, and a second control port 87 being disposed relative to the inner action region to direct nutrient gas at an angle thereto from the other leg 42 for switching the gas issuing from the power nozzle from the leg 42 to the leg 48. |
