Radial ply tyre mfr. - from intermediate structure of carcass, rims and side walls by toroidal shaping, applying protective inlay and tread and vulcanising

Mfr. of a radial-ply tyre comprises combining a carcass with reinforcing cords extending at an angle of 70-90 degrees w.r.t. the equatorial direction of the tyre, with sidewalls and rims so as to give a substructure; toroidally shaping the same; applying a protective inlay at the outside of the carcass; applying a running tread that covers the protective inlay on top and at the sides; and vulcanising. Mfg. steps are: (a) using a one-piece, hot-bonded, tread structure consisting of a running surface, 2-moulded-on connecting strips, and a buffer layer; (b) the connecting strips having, after vulcanisation, a 300% modulus between the corresp. values of the running surface and the sidewalls; (c) the width (wc) of the buffer layer, for covering the joining point (Bp) of the running surface and adjacent connecting strip is between width (wt) of running surface and width (wb) measured from outer edge of one connecting strip to that of the other; (d) vulcanising the running tread structure applied onto protective inlay and sidewalls whilst forming circumferential uneven surfaces contg. the joint of sidewall with connecting strip. Advantages are good adhesion of running tread and sidewalls; good resistance to delamination.
