Identification of data and control characters in data transmission - uses single bit examination in successive transmissions to identify four possible states

A single identification bit is used to distinguish information and control characters in data transmission systems. The last bit position (K) of each multi-bit word is reserved for the identification bit and this is required to indicate one of four possible types of word. The four types are identified by interpretation of the identification bits of successive words.
