1530105 Automatic control of width OM FILIAL SPETSIAL KONSTRUKT BJURO PO AVTOMAT V NEFTEPERERABOTKE I NEFTEKHIMII USSR and OM INST INZHENEROV ZHELEZNODOROZHNOGO TRANSPORTA 21 March 1977 11866/77 Heading G3R A system for controlling the width of an extruded blank 2 (to be made into tyre inner tubes) comprises a first servo loop in which the motor 7 driving the screw of the extruder 6 receives, via amplifier 16, a voltage proportional to the output of an adder 12 whose inputs are respectively connected to a tachometer 8 measuring the speed of the screw and a screw speed reference source 13, and a second servo loop comprising a tachometer 11 coupled to a motor 10 driving a device 9 which draws off the extruded blank, the tachometer 11 supplying one input of an adder 17 the output of which, via amplifier 20 controls the speed of the draw-off motor 10, and the other input of adder 17 being selectively coupled, by switch 18, to a drawoff speed reference source 19 (for manual control) or to the output of an adder 23 the inputs of which respectively correspond to the screw speed signal from tachometer 8 and a width error signal from a further adder 21. The latter receives inputs from a device 1 measuring the width of the blank and a desired width signal from a reference source 3. A non-linear coupling unit 15 ensures that the drawoff speed cannot be set to a value which is excessively disparate from the speed of the extruder screw; 14 is a matching attenuator. The width sensor 1 and control circuitry are briefly described.
