摘要 <p>A hydrogen absorbing alloy for an alkaline storage battery having a crystal structure of CaCu5 type and a composition represented by the formula MmNixCoyMnzM1-z, wherein M represents at least one element selected from aluminum (Al) and copper (Cu), x represents the composition ratio of nickel (Ni) and 3.0 </= x </= 5.2, y represents the composition ratio of cobalt (Co) and 0 </= y </= 1.2, z represents the composition ratio of manganese (Mn) and 0.1 </= z </= 0.9, with the proviso that the sum of x, y and z satisfies the equation 4.4 </= x + y + z </= 5.4, which comprises a bulk region having a crystal structure of CaCu5 type and a substantially uniform composition and a surface region covering the bulk region and having various compositions therein, wherein, when sums of composition ratios of cobalt (Co) and copper (Cu) in the surface region and the bulk region are denoted by a and b, respectively, the equation a/b >/= 1.3 is satisfied.</p>
