Joint prosthesis which has a joint member comprising a concavely arched sliding surface and forms or has a basic body having a matrix of a polymeric plastic. In order to improve the mechanical properties the basic body has at least one arched reinforcing layer located at a distance from its sliding surface and formed by incorporation of at least one uncrimped thread, oriented in a predetermined manner, in the matrix.
