PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a smooth maintenance job by making a computer execute a guidance display step where the guidance information corresponding to the progress state of the maintenance job is previously acquired based on the progress state and then displayed on a screen via a PC and other steps. SOLUTION: A printer diagnoses its own state for each prescribed period and starts to fill a nozzle with ink after detecting the loading of an ink cartridge. Then the printer generates and sends the state information to a PC to show an ink filling state. A setup guide program monitors the state information obtained via a printer driver and detects the ink filling state in a step S430 based on the state information. Thus. the setup guide program displays the ink filling state in a step S440, displays the remaining time on a display to end the ink filling while counting down the remaining time in the next step S450 and then displays the end of the ink filling on the screen in a step 460 after the counting down of the remaining time is over.
