The stationary part (1) of the generator incorporates the stator winding (3) and a permanent magnet (4) which provides the excitation for a coupled or integrated exciter winding (5) in the rotating part (2). This winding (5) feeds a three-phase full-wave rectifier bridge (6) which is connected to the excitation winding (7) of the generator via a power transistor (11) and free-wheel diode (17). The Hall effect rransducer (8) in the air gap supplies a current-proportionate voltage for comparison (9) with a set-point value (10). The result of the comparison is used to control the current through the transistor (11) and so bring the excitation back to the desired value.
