Prodn. of cysteamine acid-addn. salts HS(CH2)2NH2.Hx (I) is effected by (a) reacting aziridine (II) and a ketone of formula R1COR2 (III) with a hydrosulphide of formula MHS (IV) at -10 to +100 deg.C with addn. or a medium to strong acid (V) to maintain a pH of at least 8.5; and (b) hydrolysing the thiazolidine intermediate of formula (VI) in the presence of an acid: In formula R1 and R2=1-6C alkyl, or R1+R2=4-6C alkylene; M=NH4 or metal; X is an acid anion.
