Continuous chemical descaling of metal strip

The apparatus for continuous chemical descaling of metal strip (1) in a pickling bath (2) traversed by the strip is characterised by the fact that the bath has bottom and top groups of liquid nozzles (3a, 3b) which take the form of full-jet nozzles for the pickling liquid, and are directed perpendicular to the strip (1). The nozzle pressure and diameter are chosen dependent on the distance to the strip surface so that a zones of supercritical flow are formed around the points of jet impact of individual nozzles. Also claimed is a corresponding method in which the strip surface is subjected to a plurality of perpendicular jets in such a way that zones of supercritical flow of pickling liquid are formed around individual jet impact points.
