Laser marking of labels on e.g. command and signal devices

The method concerns laser marking of labels onto electric command and signal devices, and similar equipment. It is characterised by the following process steps: (a) coating of a transparent carrier layer (2) with a colour layer (4); (b) selective burn-away of individual zone areas of the colour layer by application of a laser beam (8) through the transparent layer, in such a way that the colour layer evaporates from these zones. Alternatively the carrier layer (2) is burned to a certain degree on the surface facing the removed zone areas of the layer (4), resulting in blacking of these zones. As a further alternative, the transparent carrier layer (2) is coated with a transparent colour layer and then with a non-transparent colour layer (4). Marking on such a material is colourless on a coloured background. Also claimed (below) is a material for implementation of the proposed method.
