Disclosed is a device for targeted exposure of a biological sample, preferably a biological cell material, to sound waves, comprising a sample container in which the biological sample is found in suspended form and an electroacoustic converter device generating the sound waves that is mounted outside the sample container so that the sound wave is coupled to the sample through the wall of the sample container. The invention is characterized in that the electroacoustic converter device generates sound waves at a frequency of at least 100 kHz, preferably 500 kHz to 5 MHz, and in that means are provided for focusing the sound waves which concentrate the sound waves in a sample volume inside the sample container of approximately 50 mu l.
