A unit which is a combination of a filter and an evaporator for use in connection with a small machine, where the unit comprises a filter element screwed into engagement on the evaporator unit in order to facilitate the removal of the filter medium as needed. The design of the unit forces incoming oil to flowing firstly through the filter medium and subsequently into an evaporator chamber. A central sleeve and a bottom wall of the evaporator chamber are heated directly by means of a heating element, and the evaporator chamber is closed by means of a non-perforated lid such that heat loss is eliminated. <IMAGE>
