PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily decide an optimum hull shape in a short time. SOLUTION: In this hull shape decision method, a change amount function showing a change amount between the hull shape to be found and a reference hull shape is shown by use of plural unit change amount functions wherein height direction positions are fixed to values different from each other, each the unit change amount function is expanded to a polynomial with a position in the hull length direction as a parameter, each the parameter of the polynomial is properly set within design conditions to calculate a value of each the unit change amount function, the value of the unit change amount function in each the height direction position of the hull is interpolated to calculate a value of the change amount function of the whole hull shape, a value of a function showing the reference hull shape is added to the calculated value of the change amount function to calculate the hull shape to be found, a characteristic value concerning the propelling performance of the ship in the calculated hull shape is calculated, and the hull shape corresponding to an optimum characteristic value in the case that each the parameter of the polynomial is sequentially changed is decided as the optimum hull shape.
