PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape printer in which a bar code can be processed as one character having a bar code width and one or a plurality of bar codes can be printed in a print area while being subjected to line decoration such as centering, matching of left end, and matching of right end. SOLUTION: When code data concerning to a character or a bar code is inputted by operating a character key or a bar code and a print key is operated under a state where the tape length and ay one of matching of right end, matching of left end or centering are set by operating a format set key, total character width including a character or barcode stored in a text memory is determined (S100) based on the character width data and bar code width data included in outline data corresponding to each code data of sentence data. Post-field quantity data or pre-field quantity data is then determined (S103, S105, S107) depending on a format set by a set tape length and the total character width and printing is performed on a print tape based on these data.
