PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mandrel for a mold of a plastic or the like utilizing a thermal decomposition of a nickel carbonyl gas and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The mandrel for the mold of the plastic or the like is formed of a heat resistant resin having a heating loss amount at a heating temperature of a front surface layer of 150 to 190 deg.C and a heating time of 16 to 18 hours of 0.05% or less. Thus, a bulge or a vapor deposition unevenness does not occur on the surface layer of the mandrel, but a uniform nickel layer can be formed. A thermal degradation substance is added to the resin for constituting the surface layer, and thereby a metal nickel layer can be separated from the surface layer of the mandrel at a low temperature in a short time.
