PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems in a conventional ratchet type one way clutch that knocking may occur due to excessive torque at the time of fitting and that the service life of the clutch may be shortened due to mechanical shocks produced at the time of fitting. SOLUTION: In the ratchet type one way clutch comprising an inner ring (2) having recesses (21) around the outer periphery thereon, an outer ring member (3) disposed co-axially with the inner ring and having pockets 12 around the inner peripheral surface, pawl members (10) arranged in the pockets and fitted in the recesses to transmit a torque, and energization members (11) which assist the pawl member and the recess to be fitted, an operation member (8) relatively revolving against the outer ring member, and an elastic member (5) is interposed between the outer rings member and the operation member.
