PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a propanediamine-polycarboxylate in high yield and purity. SOLUTION: Propanediamine is reacted with a malonic acid ester derivative in the method for producing an alkali metal salt of a propanediamine- polycarboxylic acid represented by the general formula (1) (wherein, M1, M2, M3 and M4 denote each independently hydrogen atom or an alkali metal, with the proviso that all the M1, M2, M3 and M4 are not hydrogen atoms).
