PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the portability of an image recording and reproducing unit by reducing its unit scale. SOLUTION: The image recording and reproducing unit has a configuration which can be divided into a portable part 10 consisting mainly of a hard disk drive 1001 to store image information and a main body part 11 to output the image information to a display unit 12 such as a monitor. Use in the state where the portable part and the main body part are not connected (cordless state) is possible. Moreover, whether or not the charge quantity of the inside power source 1007 of the portable part 10 is sufficient for an operation is detected, and when the charge quantity is insufficient, the display part 1009 of the portable part 10 indicates that the inside power source 1007 is insufficient, and power source supply to the portable part 10 is controlled.
