PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform an accurate tracking control operation, even when a thermal characteristic of a pickup varies, by generating a tracking error signal responding to the state. SOLUTION: In an optical disk apparatus which is constituted so as to generate the tracking error signal on the basis of a main signal for which a signal obtained from reflected light of a main beam is processed and a sub signal for which a signal obtained from reflected light of a sub beam is processed, and to perform the tracking control operation by the generated tracking error signal, a detection of a temperature of the pickup is performed, and the gain of either main signal or sub-signal is corrected when the detected temperature is not within a prescribed range.
