PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retractable type steering column device capable of suppressing a secondary collision of a driver against a steering wheel and an air bag by preventing a steering column from being rebounded after the retrac tion. SOLUTION: A ring nut 81 is screwed into the rear end of a main body 25, and a reverse return prevention mechanism 83 is assembled between the ring nut 81 and a column tube 27. The reverse return prevention mechanism 83 comprises a tapered surface 85 formed inside the ring nut 81, a number of steel balls 87 installed between the tapered surface 85 and the column tube 27, an O ring 89 installed between the steel balls 87 and the main body 25. The tapered surface 85 is formed so as to be converged toward the rear, and the inclination angleαthereof is set significantly smaller than a friction angle between the ring nut 81 and the steel ball 87.
