Immunosuppression by blocking T cell co-stimulation signal 2 (B7/CD28 interaction)

A biological reagent capable of inhibiting T-cell mediated rejection of a xenotransplanted organ by blocking the delivery of co-stimulatory signal 2 in order to prevent the activation of xenoreactive T-cells in the recipient. The reagent is a cell which expresses in its surface MHC class II of a different organism. Also described is biological tissue comprising the biological reagent provided that if it is human tissue it is located ex vivo, the use of the biological reagent in the manufacture of a formulation for administering to a xenotransplant recipient and in vitro processes for rendering biological tissue suitable for xenptransplantation.
