PARALLEL INTERFACE BUS TO COMMUNICATE VIDEO DATA ENCODED FOR SERIAL DATA LINKS

A parallel interface bus for communicating video data encoded for serial data links is provided to facilitate the physical separation of a function block, which formats data representing audio and video signals into an HDMI(High Definition Multimedia Interface)-compliant signal and serializes the HDMI-compliant signal, while maintaining the transmission of HDMI-compliant data to the outside of a transmitter. A device comprises the following parts: a bus; a parallel source(208) which provides parallel signal groups including video signals to the bus; and a parallel sink(260) which receives the parallel signal group from the bus. Pixels are represented in more than one of the parallel signal groups because the bus has the number of lanes which is fewer than the number of signals used to represent pixels. The parallel sink includes a signal extractor for separating at least a part of the parallel signal group into multiple channels, and an encoder and serializer circuits for encoding and serializing the separated signals.
