Provided is a method for calibrating a depth camera, which comprises the steps of: S1) using a depth camera (DC) to be calibrated in order to acquire a plurality of depth maps (DMS) of a physical three-dimensional reference object (PO), wherein the depth maps correspond to different positions of the depth camera relative to the reference object; S2) computing a three-dimensional reconstruction (3DR_i) of the reference object from the depth maps based on values assigned to a set of calibration parameters (SCP_i) of the depth camera; S3) computing an error (ERR_i) between the three-dimensional reconstruction computed at step S2) and a predetermined digital model (RM) of the reference object; and S4) choosing values (SCP) of the set of calibration parameters which minimize the error computed at step S3); wherein the steps S2) and S3) are iterated while assigning different values to the set of calibration parameters of the depth camera, and the steps S2) to S4) are performed by a computer. |
