A printing apparatus which has a plurality of trays for stacking sheets on which an image is printed, wherein stacking capability of a first tray included in the plurality of trays varies according to stacking status of a second tray included in the plurality of trays, and stacking capability of the second tray does not vary according to stacking status of the first tray, the printing apparatus comprising:
a controller unit configured to select, according to a user operation, the first tray or the second tray as a tray to be used; accept an instruction to start a job; control, when the instruction is accepted, such that sheets on which an image is printed based on the job are stacked on the selected first or second tray; detect, after the selected first or second tray becomes full, that the sheets stacked on the selected first or second tray are removed; and control, after it is detected that the sheets stacked on the selected first or second tray are removed, such that other sheets on which an image is printed based on the job are stacked on the first tray regardless of the selection.
