In a method for generating an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol to be included in a PHY data unit for transmission via a communication channel, wherein the OFDM symbol includes a plurality of OFDM tones, information bits to be included in the OFDM symbol are encoded to generate encoded information bits. The encoded information bits are parsed into a plurality of spatial streams. The spatial streams, or space-time streams generated from the spatial streams, are mapped to transmit chains using a plurality of spatial mapping matrices corresponding to the plurality of OFDM tones. Additionally, one of i) reordering OFDM tones before spatial mapping is applied, or ii) reordering OFDM tones after spatial stream mapping is applied and reordering spatial mapping matrices to match the reordered OFDM tones is performed. The OFDM symbol to be included in the PHY data unit is generated. |

1. A method for generating an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol to be included in a physical layer (PHY) data unit for transmission via a communication channel, wherein the OFDM symbol includes a plurality of OFDM tones, the method comprising:
encoding, using a low density parity check (LDPC) encoder, information bits to be included in the OFDM symbol to generate encoded information bits, wherein two or more code words are used to encode information bits to be included in the OFDM symbol, and wherein encoded information bits corresponding to at least one of the two or more code words are to be entirely included in the OFDM symbol; parsing the encoded information bits into a plurality of spatial streams; for each spatial stream, parsing the encoded information bits into a first frequency portion corresponding to a first subband of the communication channel and a second frequency portion corresponding to a second subband of the communication channel; and for each frequency portion
mapping the spatial streams, or space-time streams generated from the spatial streams, to transmit chains using a plurality of spatial mapping matrices corresponding to the plurality of OFDM tones, andreordering OFDM tones of the OFDM symbol such that information bits encoded using each of the two or more code words are distributed over a portion of the OFDM symbol, wherein the portion of the OFDM symbol corresponds to the corresponding subband of the communication channel, and wherein reordering OFDM tones includes performing one of:i) reordering OFDM tones before spatial mapping is applied, orii) reordering OFDM tones after spatial stream mapping is applied and reordering spatial mapping matrices to match the reordered OFDM tones; and generating the OFDM symbol to be included in the PHY data unit. |
