Yarn 18" is measured off and stored in a zigzag path on a cylindrical body 1 on which it is laid by a pair of pivotable dogs 24, 25 carried by and between two movable chains 22, 23. The body 1 is rotated uniformly or intermittently and has radial plate 7 at one end with recesses 44 for the yarn and at the other end axially adjustable radial plates 14 with recesses 50 in which the yarn is held by solenoid actuated radial pins 15. Yarn cutters 90 and 128 may be provided at both ends of the body 1 so that picks may be 1, 2 or several times L, the distance from a pin 15 to a recess 44. Each dog 24, 25 has a hook 28 which picks up the yarn 18' between a tube 19, which is pivotable on an arm 57 to stop storage, and a recess 44 and releases the yarn when a roller 26 reaches a surface 32 of an adjustable cam 45. Picking off weft The yarn is picked off the storage body 1 by a pair of hooks 93, 94 which enter a recess (85) (Fig. 12, not shown), in one of the radial plates 7 and are moved both axially of the body 1 by solenoids 96, 97 and radially by solenoids 111, 112 acting through arms 105, 106 and links 99, 100 and apart, because the solenoids 96, 97 engage guide slots, to draw the yarn into a triangular shape. The yarn is then gripped by two pairs of grippers 124, 125 and cut between the pairs by a cutter 128. Each gripper pair in turn, mounted on an arm 119 and 120, is moved by a cam 141 into alignment with a weft picking element 127 and by a solenoid 137 or 138 to straddle the element 127 which carries the weft through the shed. |
