Information is stored on, and read from, a spiral or concentric circular tracks on a rotatable record 14 by a magnetic head 20 or 21 rotatable between two extremes about an axis 44 spaced from the record axis 16 less than the radial dimension of the record. The track width accordingly increases toward the record periphery to offset the increased tangential speed and thereby provide information of constant signal strength. Two heads 20, 21 are affixed to a member 18 having an arcuate or other surface 36 about which extend inextensible bands 68, 72 coupled to a capstan 22 driven by a stepping motor to position the heads radially of the record. |
