The titanium compound may be prepared in situ for reaction with the magnesium compound. The magnesium alcoholate may include halogen, sulphate, carboxylate or hydroxy groups. The alcoholate may be reacted with other inert inorganic compounds, particularly magnesium compounds containing hydroxy groups, prior to reaction with the titanium compound. The mixture of magnesium compounds may be obtained by directly mixing or by partial hydrolysis of the magnesium alcoholate. In examples, Mg(OCH 3 ) 2 , Mg(OC 2 H 5 ) 2 or mixtures thereof with Mg(OH) 2 are reacted with TiCl 4 , TiCl 4 / Ti(O - i - C 3 H 7 ) 4 mixture, TiCl 4 /Ti(O - i- C 4 H 9 ) 4 mixture, or TiCl 2 (O-i-C 3 H 7 ) 2 and then mixed with Al(i-C 4 H 9 ) 3 , Al(C 2 H 5 ) 3 , Al(C 2 H 5 ) 2 H, or Al 2 Cl 3 (C 2 H 5 ) 3 and the catalysts used to polymerize ethylene or an ethylene/butene mixture.</p> |
