1407162 Alkylating isoparaffins PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO 15 Jan 1973 [13 Jan 1972 22 Sept 1972] 1926/73 Heading C5E Isobutane and/or isopentane are alkylated with propylene, a butylene and/or an anylene in the presence of a HF catalyst modified with 5-35 wt. per cent ethyl fluoride based on the total catalyst weight, the amount of ethylene present, if any, not exceeding 5 wt. per cent of the total olefin feed. The ethyl fluoride may be added to the reaction zone as such or may be formed in situ by adding ethylene. The alkylation may be carried out at 35-200‹ F., at a pressure sufficient for liquid phase operation, e.g. at least 160 p.s.i.g., with an isoalkane : olefin molar ratio of 2 : 1-100 : 1.
|
