A melting and casting furnace for melting and/or casting oxidizing metals, especially copper cathodes, the furnace comprises a furnace portion provided with at least one melting inductor 3, means for feeding cathodes into the furnace, casting nozzles 5 and means for feeding charcoal 7 into the furnace to prevent an oxidation of the melt. To provide an efficient reduction, the furnace is provided with a floating portion 4 made of refractory material, to be positioned on the melt surface in a melting space of the furnace and arranged to cover substantially the whole melt surface in the furnace, and that the means for feeding charcoal 7 comprise a channel portion 6, arranged to open to the lower surface of the floating portion 4 and thus to guide the charcoal 7 below the floating portion 4.
