The control device for the valve control pulses (p1 to p6) of the line-commutated converter has an ancillary device (2) for balancing the control pulses. The ancillary device (2) contains two series-connected delay stages (18, 24), of which the first (18) is fed with a pulse chain formed from the sum signal (a) of the control pulses (p1, ..., p6). The second delay stage (24) transmits a pulse chain as an ancillary control voltage (UZ) to which a pre-defined control voltage (UC) is added in an adder (8) for the valve control voltage (US). In the second delay stage (24), a control circuit (30, 50) is activated which ensures phase coincidence of the sum signal (a) with the ancillary control voltage (UZ). The control device enables a high degree of balance of the control pulses regardless of the tolerances of the components which are to be used. <IMAGE>
