1523176 Olefins MOBIL OIL CORP 7 April 1976 [8 April 1975] 14104/76 Heading C5E Alcohols and/or ethers having no more than 4 carbon atoms per alkyl group are converted to olefins by contact at low severity with a catalyst comprising a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a constraint index (defined) of 12-3000 and a crystal density in the dry hydrogen form not less than 1.54 g./c.c. The olefin product is aromatizable, by contact with the same zeolite, to give gasoline. Suitable zeolites are ZSM's 5, 11, 12 or 21. Examples describe the conversion of methanol and of dimethyl ether to mixtures containing ethylene and propylene. |
