The invention relates to a method for operating a power-assist braking system. Said power-assist braking system has a first operating mode in which it is not activated, a second operating mode in which pressure is built up in the wheel brakes after an emergency braking situation has been detected and a third operating mode which is provided for the transition from the second operating mode to the first. The pressure in the wheel brakes (3, 4) is reduced in the third operating mode by opening the outlet valves (7, 8), hereby preventing pressure peaks in the tandem master cylinder and the uncomfortable pedal feel associated with this.
