Known methods for checking coins for their authenticity are based on sensors detecting various characteristics of the coins which serve for identifying the coin as being good or bad. The sensor values and tolerance limits assigned to them are entered permanently in a storage circuit, starting from an "ideal coin" as "desired values". In contrast to this, by means of the present invention, the desired values of the characteristics of the coins to be checked are not entered into a corresponding circuit from the outset, starting from a standard coin, but the circuit determines the tolerance limits as it were itself, in that each desired value is coordinated with the possible actual coin properties occurring in the trade, here the actual value of a random coin selection, and the tolerance possibilities assigned to it are determined. For this purpose, the measured values obtained from the sensors as a result of the coin selection are prepared in digitised form, for example entered in an RAM memory.
|
