Method and apparatus for cleaning and disinfecting endoscopic instruments

For cleaning, disinfecting and sterilising endoscopic instruments it is proposed that at least those parts (9a, 12, 13) of the instrument (9) which can be introduced into body cavities be placed in a container (20) and be rinsed or flushed therein with a liquid treated with cleaning agents for a time T1 and with continuous circulation of the liquid. The parts are then rinsed or flushed once again with a liquid to which a cleaning agent and/or sodium chloride (NaCl) has been added for a time T2, the liquid being circulated via an electrolytic cell (29) to which a voltage is applied and which works on the principle of electrical dissociation. Thereafter, the parts are rinsed or flushed once again with a liquid for a time T3, the liquid again being circulated via the electrolytic cell. During this time the cell is operated at a reduced current density. <IMAGE>
