The pump is equipped with a diaphragm (1) arranged inside a housing (2). Lamellae, for example comprising expandable rings (30), which are actuable transversely to the pump delivery direction and are arranged axially successively inside the diaphragm (1) deform the latter progressively in the manner of a wave. During this process, peristaltic annular delivery chambers (5) progressing from a pump inlet side to a pump discharge side are formed between one side of the diaphragm (1) and one inner side of the housing (2). These chambers are tightly closed by transverse wave crests (6) of the diaphragm (1), in that the respectively expanded rings (30) press corresponding parts of the diaphragm (1) tightly against the inner wall of the housing (2). The delivery chambers (5) can thus be closed more tightly in contrast to those inside a hose of a conventional peristaltic pump, the delivery chambers of which are to be sealed off merely by linear closures, since the closures have the form of circular transverse waves, with the result that a considerably higher underpressure can be obtained with a pump of this type. <IMAGE>
