A method and apparatus for purifying a reservoir of water is disclosed employing an elongated lift tube (22, 122, 322, 422) for conveying water from and into the reservoir and introducing an air stream (52, 152, 352, 452) containing ozone in the bottom of the lift tube for causing upward movement of the water in the lift tube and purifying the water. The lift tube (322, 422) can be suspended in a water tank (321) or can be provided in a separate housing (21, 121) in which case activated carbon (41, 141) is supported above the water level of the housing and a float (45) prevents water from reaching the carbon. Magnets (448) with their poles facing one another are placed on opposite sides of the water received in the lift tube. |
