The adaptive routine and media access control uses information obtd. from a digitised table and relating to all the stations within the mobile communication network, or only to those within a relevant area, the cluster within which the mobile station is located being monitored, to evaluate the cluster which will be reached at a given time point. The tables are updated in dependence on the new stations entering each area, with dynamic addressing of the stations, each station identification followed by a cluster identification, the routing and medium selection utilising the optimum path and the preferred medium without risk of conflict.
