Piston press to dewater e.g. a batch of wet textiles uses a ram which is joined at its bottom face to the rim of a cup-shaped element, made of an elastomer or plastomer. A connection at the top face of the ram terminates a bore through the ram and is constantly connected to the water mains via a hose and a pipe. The end of the pipe has one valve for the water mains and a second valve leading to atmosphere (for venting).
