PURPOSE: To provide an electrochemical element whose electrode can be formed by sintering at low temperature, which has high durability, and for which an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte is used. CONSTITUTION: An electrochemical element is composed of a sintered substrate 1 made of an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte and platinum electrode films 2a, 2b on the surface of the substrate. The electrode films 2a, 2b are made of a mixture consisting of a compounded material of bismuth oxide 3 and cupric oxide 4, a sintered body 5 of the oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte, and platinum 6. The ratios in the composition are 1-7wt.% of bismuth oxide 3, cupric oxide 4 in wt.% 0-2 times as much as that of bismuth oxide, sintered body 5 in wt.% 1 or higher times as much as that of bismuth oxide and a half or lower of the wt.% of platinum, and balance platinum. Since bismuth oxide is mixed in the electrodes, the electrodes can be produced by sintering at 1000 deg.C or lower. Also, since the oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte in the electrodes compensates the decrease of oxygen ion conductivity due to the deterioration of bismuth oxide, the durability can be improved. |
