摘要 A cathode ray tube (1) is ventilated, cleaned, and separated from the neck, the implosion protector and deflectors. It is passed to the work station where a point is defined between the screen and the cone by an electrical heating wire (12) round it. The heating wire (12) is held under a constant draw tension and heated for 90-120 secs. When the heating current is disconnected, the CRT is separated by mechanical or thermal shock. In further stages, in a dry process, the screen coating is detached and sucked clear and retained in filters. The glass bodies of the whole CRT (1) are separated into three types of glass, and mechanically broken down into fragments. The specific power rating at the heating wires is about 30 W per 100 mm of wire length. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method is for the disposal of faulty and used CRTs. The components are separated without damage to the environment, and the glass components are separated for recovery, with reduced loading on rubbish disposal plants.
