PURPOSE:To improve the ghost eliminating performance and also to shorten the ghost eliminating time by stopping the setting action for a tap coefficient of a transversal filter at a time point when the ghost is reduced down to satisfactorily small degree. CONSTITUTION:An output is produced at a counter 15 when ZN<-1> times of correlative operations needed in a maximum ghost mode is through. Then a maximum value deciding circuit 16 is triggered by the output of the counter 15. The circuit 16 monitors the maximum value of the tap coefficients of each stage of a transversal filter TF 2 which is stored in a tap setting memory 14. Then the actuation of an arithmetic circuit 13 is stopped when the tap coefficient value is changed to a decrement from an increment. Thus each tap coefficient set by an immediately preceding correlative operation is held in the memory 14. Hereafter the ghost correcting signals are produced in response to each tap coefficient and the ghost is eliminated.
