PURPOSE: To provide an AC plasma display and establish its method of manufacturing at a low cost whereby the film can be formed simply and stably by a chemical process and satisfactorily even at a low film forming temp., the obtained film has excellent characteristics about film strength, tight attachment, and protection effect, and the resultant plasma display incorporating the film is driven with a sunk discharge start voltage and drive voltage (power consumption). CONSTITUTION: A back board 2 and a front board 1 are opposingly installed while a gas discharge space is interposed, and either or both of the boards is/are furnished with electrodes to form a pair enclosed with a dielectric layer 5, and a protection layer 6 is formed on the dielectric layer 5. The protection layer 6 is an alkali earth metal oxide film (for example, magnesium oxide film) formed by applying a coating liquid containing principally a partial hydrolyzed substance of alkali earth metal compound (for example, magnesium compound) having a reaction part capable of hydrolysis on base board consisting of a dielectric layer 5, followed by a heating process. |
